I thought Kelly Macdonald did a great job though. I absolutely adore her. I really liked Emma Thompson — she had a tough part too in that the queen was perhaps the most complex character of the show with the greatest character change throughout. Billy Connolly did fantastic, especially in bits where he got to be sarcastic and crack jokes, and in one shining moment of hilarious parody of Merida.

Kelly MacDonald was good, especially great at key moments, but inconsistent. At times she sounded too old or insincere in the narrative. It was a problem more in voice overs than when Merida was speaking to someone, and I think part of the problem had to do with weak scripting in some areas.
