Project Summary Revitalised an antiquated and of poor visual quality central Town Hall site Replaced low quality offices and shops with an award winning comprehensive scheme Delivered a modern community facility incorporating exhibition space and consultation rooms Created well designed and landscaped public space improving permeability and links.
Planning Process The design of the development was highly respectful of the Montpelier Conservation Area the school resides in. As part of the project team, we delivered civil and structural engineering, and geotechnical and geo-environmental advice for this development.
The delivery of sustainable, energy-efficient office space was an important aspect of our structural design of Keynsham Civic Centre. The office building is constructed entirely in cross laminated timber and incorporates composite precast concrete planks to provide thermal mass as part of the natural ventilation strategy for the building.
This prefabricated structure sits directly on top of an in-situ concrete podium housing the retail element of the scheme. Elections for the Town Council are held every four years and the last elections were in May Casual vacancies can arise during the four year term and these are either filled via co-option or, if requested by 10 residents, a by-election.
Town Councillors do not receive any payment for being elected Members and offer their time voluntarily for the benefit of the local community. It deals with many services including waste collection, council tax, blue badge, parking. People are also encouraged to get their flu vaccine, as both viruses have the potential to cause serious illness and hospitalisation.
Coronavirus can affect anyone, but the risk remains higher in older ages. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness and are at a greater risk of dying from Covid Booster vaccines are available to all people over the age of 50, as well as health and social care workers and those aged 16 and over with an underlying health condition.
People are eligible six months and one week after receiving their second dose. The National Booking Service remains open for any person needing to arrange a first or second vaccination, or a third booster dose. The vaccine is very effective, but, like all vaccines, it becomes slightly less effective over time. Having the booster will mean you get good protection.
Our priority during this challenging winter period is to protect local people and our health services as much as possible. The old s development had a public space which was north facing and split across multiple levels making events and markets difficult to hold.
The outdated shops were outward facing with an unused rear car park. Our design made everything permeable and maximised building frontages on this tight site. We also rotated the public square so that if faces west into the afternoon sun and better addresses the high street.
