How many skydives before solo
The whole thing depends on your technique, your focus and your determination. Wax on, wax off. As in any well-run training program of any type, students don't progress to the next level until they've demonstrated mastery of the level with which they're currently engaged. As there are eight levels within the AFF curriculum, each with a determined set of skills to be mastered and demonstrated, you'll jump at least eight times and that's if you're a stone-cold natural.
Most people jump a couple of times at each level, give or take, but it all depends on you. We set you up for success in the AFF Camp format because the focus is pretty much built-in. Indeed it does, dear reader. Undertaking the challenge of learning to skydive, even in a program as legendarily awesome as our own, is no small row to hoe.
It will require bravery, stamina, and heart, whether you breeze through the program in eight jumps or grit your teeth and take twenty. People learn at different rates and face their unique challenges in different ways.

That said, we also welcome lots of first-time jumpers who are keen to experience skydiving in other ways. You can elect to make a tandem skydive for your first jump. By choosing to jump here at Skydive Tecumseh, you have the option to select from three exit altitudes , including the highest tandem skydive in the US. AFF stands for Accelerated Freefall and is the best option for first-time jumpers who want to jump solo and pull their own parachute from jump one.
This is a series of skydiving lessons given over a day which teach you how skydiving works, about the equipment we use, and prepares you for a wide range of situations you may face in the sky. AFF courses ensure you are safe to jump and fully understand what you need to do. You are required to complete a series of skydives during which you must show a number of key skills focused on developing your flying abilities in freefall and also your canopy parachute flight.

Two instructors fly with you on the jumps, securing a grip on each side of your harness from inside the airplane until you deploy your main parachute. During exit and freefall they are with to ensure stability and altitude awareness, and provide in air coaching and skill analysis.
Calgary Skydive uses the Accelerated Freefall AFF program for teaching student skydivers, and ensuring they earn a solo license in the most efficient and rapid learning environment. Levels focus on stable exits, stable freefall, altitude awareness and focus heavily on practicing and executing proper, stable parachute deployment body position.
During these levels, two instructors will exit the airplane holding each side of the harness of your parachute system to assist in stability, and coach and assess in freefall. Students are taught how to properly fly their parachutes to the landing area and land safely. During these early levels, instructors do have back-up ground-to-air radios to provide coaching during parachute descent. Level 6 is always a favourite!
