How can i enter molten core
Just before the re-opening of the Dark Portal , Ragnaros , the lands fiery overlord was cast down from his dark throne and returned to the Firelands.
He now rages war on the world tree Nordrassil. Upon successful completion of the encounters, all bosses drop tier 1 set items - excluding Ragnaros, who drops tier 2 leg items.
In addition, trash mobs may drop Fiery Cores, Lava Cores, and Core Leather, which can be used to craft armor and weapons available with Thorium Brotherhood reputation. The Hydraxian Waterlords offer a quest chain , eventually rewarding Aqual Quintessence , which was at one point required to douse the Runes of the Firelord in order to summon Majordomo Executus and consequently, Ragnaros.
Presently, defeating bosses will automatically douse their respective runes. Near the end of the war, Thaurissan, the leader of the Dark Iron Dwarves , sought to summon a powerful fire elemental to defeat the combined forces of the Bronzebeard and Wildhammer clans. He was more successful than he could have imagined, as he released Ragnaros the Firelord from millennia of captivity under the Redridge Mountains.
Ragnaros destroyed the city of Thaurissan and created the volcano of Blackrock Mountain. He dwells there to this day with his elemental servants and the enslaved remnants of the Dark Iron dwarf clan. The burning lake where Ragnaros lies sleeping acts as a rift connecting to the plane of fire, allowing the malicious elementals to pass through. On release, Molten Core and Onyxia's Lair were the only 40 man instances in the game, thus Ragnaros was the first "game end boss.
However, prior to the Burning Crusade, slaying him was still considered a very important step in raid progression before engaging in more challenging content. It was the first raid encounter which required a concerted effort in acquiring massive amounts of a particular statistic in this case, fire resistance. Moreover, the encounter was the first one to demand the extensive use of consumables, at least in the learning process and in the first few kills. As such, it was once a very important stage in the evolution of a raiding guild.
However, as of the Burning Crusade expansion, this is no longer the case, as this instance is largely obsolete with the introduction of Outland green items with superior stats to most of Tier 1 and the fact that most higher instances are lower than 40 man, making them a much more practical way to go.
It is now typically only run for the Molten Core achievement, or by players seeking to craft [ Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros ] or [ Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker ]. While technically there are no prerequisites to enter Molten Core through its entrance at the bottom of Blackrock Depths, every Core raider will want to complete the Attunement to the Core quest to enable the shortcut at the bottom of Blackrock Mountain.
Once the Core Fragment has been obtained, you just have to return to Lothos Riftwalker. Translated from the French by Millenium. Once done, you can teleport directly to the same NPC!
If you are a guild and you want to unlock access for everyone very quickly First, make a group of 5 players with a warlock.
Once all members of the group have the fragment, remove two players from the group and invite two new players. I think we could probably do the entire thing in an hour if we reallly tried. Rag was easy, I just healed the pally when he needed it and other than that spammed lightning bolt. Took about 10 minutes. Comment by This may be a stupid question, but do u get XP in lvl 60 raids?
Comment by I killed all but Magmadar, Majordomo and raggy in 2h this night and I'm going to finish it tomorrow. Playing a prot paladin with fire res a flask and aura. All the bosses are very easy. Some of them hit hard, but on those bosses I just kept BoL, SoL and sacred shield up to keep my life.
No need to heal. Don't pull 2 sets of core hounds before Magmadar. They give a nice challenge to bring down at 1 group at a time, but with 2 groups, you have 10 core hounds, and that's really, really hard.
Comment by Leuthas All trash and bosses in Molten Core are soloable by a protection Paladin at least as of 3. So what place is this, HELL? Comment by Morbius I'm trying to solo MC but I can't figure out how to kill the 2 giants at the entrance.
I'm a demonology specced warlock. When I try to kill the 2 giants the giants lose all aggro when they knock my pet back. This makes it impossible to heal my pet without eventually getting aggro.
Anyone have any tips? Comment by DropDead mc was my first raid but the Party leader ninjaed on a hunter item his name was Bonezre on magtheridon server when we was done with majordo the leader kicked me because i told him i would report him if he dont give the item to the other hunter then ke removed me from group so i did not get Achivment. Comment by Just finished soloing it as a feral druid woohoo!
Take that pallies! A lot of these bosses require some form of healing outside of what Leader of the Pack brings you.
Do remember to barkskin before attempting any healing Golemagg, Gehennas, Gedon a lotta G's and the Sulfuron Harbringer are downright impossible without heals. Will be posting a few tips for the tougher bosses Comment by 2 manned it the other day with a ret and holy paladin. We briefly had a ret paladin as well, but he had to leave after Geddon. We only had one wipe, on Sulfuron Harbinger, due to overconfidence: we thought we could burn through the priests, but that just made us go OOM before they did.
So yes, MC can be done without heal-specced healer. On a few of the fights, Golemagg in particular, the boomkin stayed in caster form to keep up HoTs on the tank. Edited for clarity. Comment by I tried to do MC once. We came to the core hounds.
We kill them but they stay on 1 hp, then they respawn. How do you make them die? Comment by Ok question - and probably a stupid one - but is there a way to create a raid with just say 2 people, so I can go solo in places like MC or ZG? It seems to me to be a bit unfair to make achievements for places like ZG or MC or what have you where really no one goes anymore at least not on my server , and then make the places raid-only. Any ideas? Comment by DrCheis The lava in this zone is intended as a natural barrier.
If you stack fire resistance and can heal yourself though, you can move through it relatively freely for long periods. Be careful doing this though, since the map wasn't designed for it, and straying too far to the edges generally you can tell when you get there might result in falling through the world to your death.
Comment by just got a core hound hoot hoot. Comment by do you need to kill all the bosses to be able to fight with ragnaros or you can directly attack him? Because when you look on the mc map it looks like there is a shortcut to ragnaros..
Comment by I've tried soloing MC on a DK but it's harder then it sounds I am sometimes close to winning the boss fights but no they are pretty tough :P.
Comment by Melkoshi Just two-maned this with a 4. Hardest boss would of been Baron, due to the living bomb crap. Comment by I spent so many evenings in this place back in ? EPIC, not a dime a dozen like they are now. Back in early vanilla you knew which guilds were succeeding and which weren't just by standing around your capital city.
Not so much anymore. Everyone looks the same. Comment by Solo clear as a Ret paladin. No tank gear to speak of. I was and still am looking to get my Hydraxian Waterlords reputation to Exalted. After little luck in finding a healer to duo the place, I decided to try and go it alone. So unless your durability is incredibly low you probably won't need to leave as I did. Entered the instance at AM, was done at And it can certainly be cleared in under 2 hours with no wipes.
I'd recommend reading up on the bosses before you go, especially if you've never done MC. I've been playing this game since MC was relevant, but even I needed a short refresher for some of the bosses. It's always good to know what to expect. It was quite a bit of fun to do. I know only certain classes can manage a solo run of MC, but if you happen to be one of them it's worth doing once. The bosses drop a fair bit of money, too -- Ragnaros dropped gold, for example. Not that I'd recommend an MC clear as your main source of income, but it's a nice bonus to killing the bosses.
Comment by I've heard rumors, but haven't seen any posts on the subject, that Molten Core will no longer be available in Cataclysm thus blocking future players from earning Hydraxian rep, getting Sulfuras and Thunderfury, and just enjoying the zone in general.
Can anyone confirm or deny this, preferably with a link? Comment by mouseno4 I am currently running through MC in a dual boxing format. Protection Paladin and Holy Priest. Surprisingly enough, the trash are more trouble than the actual bosses themselves. Comment by mouseno4 Tips for dual boxers attempting this.
Boss 1 - Lucifron - Clear a path to him, tank and spank. Renew or seal of light will be fine. Boss 2 - Magmadar - Clear the fire imps prior to his room, and the 2 packs on the right as you look past the dogs to the boss. Sit your healer back at the start of this room just after the fire imps. Tag the boss with your tank and run the wall avoiding all the packs - use fear ward, pally shield, EMFH anything to wipe the fear for one time.
Tank and spank, he fears and drops fire on the ground. Fire is negligible damage and fear is just a pain. Boss 3 - Gehennas - If you can cure curses you are fine to tank and spank. If not, put any form of healing on you, be it priest shields, frenzy regen, seal of light, even warrior's regen. His curse kills practically all healing. Boss 4 - Garr - Pfft tank and spank, pull boss, auto attack, go have a smoke and come back.
Boss 5 - Shazzrah - Put healer at max range. Tank with boss' back up against wall. Tank and spank. Boss 6 - Baron Geddon - Pull boss back into Garr's area and run up the wall a bit. Fair bit of healing needed on all members. Fire resist is a plus. Long fight. Boss 7 - Golemag - Has a dot that stacks to The damage gets a bit intense but nothing like the ICC 5 mans, that are current as i write this. Boss 8 - Sulfuron Harbinger - Pfft tank and spank. Mana burn the adds if possible, otherwise just auto attack til adds oom.
Then aoe the adds and then finally the boss. Boss 9 - Majordomo Executus - Relatively easy, but pain in the butt fight.
Ignore the boss completely, and kill the adds. There are a lot of adds, but a solid 10 mins should kill em all. Try to keep from healing your tank with your alt as best you can. He seems to threat reset. Also when your teleported to the fire pit, get out. Simple fight. Comment by wowogamer Molten Core will not be removed in Cataclysm!
Stockton: One of our new raids is called Blackwing Descent and that takes place inside of Blackrock Mountain. Gameplanet: And those raids will still be tuned to their traditional levels? Comment by You can solo this as a warlock! Comment by Is MC staying the way it is now, in Cata? Or shall it be changed?
Comment by Are most of these bosses still soloable as a Bloodthirst warrior as of the 4. Comment by Doing it as prot warrior Item level with Arcane Mage for last two weeks. As you see, no major healing, just some bandages, heal pots and enraged regeneration for me and we r cleaning full area with all mobs under 90 minutes.
Soloed Gehennas, Shazzrah, and Baron as cat dps. All other bosses as bear. I could not do this pre-patch as tank or dps spec.
Comment by Would like to add that as of 4. Just keep the following up in order of most important to least number of combo points doesn't matter : Recuperation, Slice and Dice, Rupture. Squeeze in a 5 point eviscerate when you have everything rolling and nothing's in danger of dropping.
I had an average item level of when doing this, but it could probably be done in less gear considering how easy I steamrolled this place. You only get full rep at that point for bosses. Comment by runedragon Passing up Molten Core is very much the same as not blowing out the candles of your birthday cake: You can pass if you want to, but it's traditional. It is easily the penultimate Raid instance that makes playing WoW worth it. I would go into the very depths of Molten Core and enjoy every minute more than I would Northrend or Outland.
Comment by bobojangles Soloed this as a dk at lvl 80, and druid lvl Comment by vnodas Has anybody tried soloing it as a Holy Pally? Comment by oneru Solo'd on questgear 85 feral druid. Could stay in catform for pretty much all bosses, except Golemagg, who still seems to hit pretty damn hard. Easy gold, quite good fun and chance for Legendaries. Have fun! Comment by Just soloed this as a lvl 85 Demonology Warlock with average item level of Used my Felguard through the entire instance with a combination of hellfire and felstorm for bigger packs or bunches of bosses.
Only had a little bit of trouble from Barron Geddon, otherwise was very easy. Had to heal my pet occassionally but was fine otherwise. Took about 2. Probably could power through it in about Comment by MC is solo-able as a fury warrior.
I am an average gear score with tanking gear. All i did was switch to Fury and dual wield. Most fights are straight forward. Blood thirst to keep your HP up. I think its Golmag that is kind of a pain. To get rid of this just attack his dogs till they go away Rag is kinda of a pita but doable.
No healing potions and only had to use enraged regeneration once on rag. Comment by Easily soloable as an 85 afflic warlock, and probably any other 85 some obviously would need more strategy than others. VW pet the whole time.
Had to be patient with pet management on Garr, and pull Baron Geddon into the tunnel. Other than that, trash pulls were actually sometimes worse than bosses, especially the groups of elementals later on. As long as VW stays in Rag's melee range he's completely cake. Very little actual strategy was needed and no consumables used, keep VW alive and blow everything up. Trash aggro radius is pathetic at 85 so a lot of them can easily be avoided to speed up the run.
Did it once before. Have gear made up for dodge and parry but didn't need with loss to dps. The threat and defence on the pets is by far better then LK.
The best I did was reg LK 5 mans. And all heroic 70's all very slowly with a i lvl or better gemed and enchanted for defence. Comment by Nobbel Guides for how to solo MoltenCore. Things to watch out for Core Hound Packs before magmadar - Any hound dead for 10 seconds will be ressurected by any hounds still living, therefore they all need to die in a 10 second window. Baron Geddon - Fall damage can be quite heavy, if you pull him back from the lowest point of his patrol towards the tunnel you just exited the one that came from Garr you can tank with your back against a wall with a low ceiling, when he knocks you into the air you will bounce off the ceiling and take a very minor amount of fall damage, easily outhealed by a single deathstrike.
Sulfuron Harbinger - Set Focus on an add and then just keep chipping away at the boss, his healing adds will eventually run out of mana and you'll succeed the Set Focus is just to give yourself an idea when the adds are out of mana, they all run out at the same time. That's pretty much it tbh, the rest is straight forward. Comment by Jadaya Does anyone know if MC or Anything to do with the raid instance Thunderfury Bindings to be precice will be removed in the upcomming Cataclysm patch - as you all know Ragnaros is infact Alive and kicking it.
In Hyjal. Comment by At 85, this is extremely easy to solo. As an engineer, some useful schematics drop there. And that wasn't ideal, since it was really just my Disc set worn in a Shadow spec. With the Talent that converts Spirit into Hit Rating, I didn't even need to swap a single gear piece from my healing set. A properly-geared Spriest would have no issues, I'm thinking. It wasn't hard, doesn't take a lot of time, and can actually be fairly profitable if you get lucky with some pattern drops.
Some general notes: -Unless you're below Revered and are after rep, skip the trash. At 85 you can run past most of it. I typically kill the Core Hounds just because their patrol paths make them a nuisance, and occasionally a Lava Surger will blunder into my path.
But the majority of the mobs can be skipped if desired, or easily dispatched if not. Use it! Also don't neglect Archangel and Dispersion. Shields up, pew pew. As for the bosses, generally it's the standard fair The other four can be run past en route to Magmadar.
As for Luci himself Remember to Dispel his magic debuff. Finally and this is very important! Cast Fear Ward on yourself, and watch where you stand. Otherwise he's not bad at all, even when enraged he doesn't damage you enough to matter. He drops no gold, the cheapskate. His healing-reduction spell is meaningless, though the occasional stun is annoying. Just keep your Shield up and blow him away.
Arguably the easiest boss in the instance. He's not hard but it can take a little while to whittle away at so many targets. Remember to recast your buffs after the fight is over.
Cross your fingers for some Bindings. Most important thing you can do is Dispel his magic debuff. You won't even need Fire Resistance gear.
Hope for the Bindings. Small health pool, laughable damage output, but he constantly Counterspells you. DoTs will kill him just fine, though it takes a little while, Consider dropping out of Shadowform for this fight; If he locks out your Shadow spells you can amuse yourself by Smiting him. Keep that Shield up, use your Shadowfiend and nuke your heart out. He takes a little longer than previous bosses. Harbinger himself seems content to stand back and toss spears at you.
But he's flanked by 4 adds who are Priests themselves. I found the best strat was to simply Mana burn all four of them until they were ooM then take them down. This takes awhile and strains your own Mana pool Be prepared to take a beating and run out of Mana on this fight.
Dispersion and Shadowfiend are your friends. Despite having twice the adds as Sulfuron, he's not as rough to fight. Concentrate on taking out the four healer adds first, then the melee adds. You'll constantly get telelported to the fire pit, which both interrupts your spells and forces you to keep moving; Keep that Shield up and throw those DoTs.
This is another fight where you'll take a beating but you should have the Mana to get through just fine. Rag's damage is no match for your Shield and VE. Try and get him down before he submerges, as his adds have a Mana burn aura. If your gear is lacking this might something you might have to worry about, considering the size of Rag's health pool. Oh and Being an engineer certainly helps here. From the start, I parachute from the first ramp into lava, once out, camouflage past the first trash, kill 1 core hound pack, kill Lucifron, camo past the rest, down Magmadar.
Run back the same way and kill Gehennas, Garr, Geddon, and Shazzrah watch out for the core hounds here, if you get the debuff for reduced attack speed, you're pretty much useless for 15 minutes. Camouflage up to Sulfuron, kill the core hound and lava surger, so they don't bother you during the fight. Run to Golemagg, kill, loot, run to Majordomo, kill, loot. Run all the way back with camo on and you should get to Rag in about 2 minutes. Kill Ragnaros, enjoy you free gold. I don't use rocket boots due to their high failure rate, but even without them, fast and quick clear is guaranteed.
Comment by Vigilance I spent so many evenings in this place back in ? Comment by soloing this place is EASY. Comment by Feral tank Druid: soloed Molten Core yesterday and failed against Ragnaros 3 times before quitting for the evening.
I believe my problem was positioning. I attempted to fight him so that I was thrown into the lava, but occasionally took damage from the fall regardless. The next day I decided to try again. I positioned myself in the "spot. Additionally, I changed form from bear to cat in the air when thrown back so that I took no damage in the fall. This was a successful strategy after watching youtube. Very easy fight. Good luck on getting the loot you are seeking!
I do have the Cata expensive plus I've tried to set Raid Difficulty to 10 player, 25 player, 10 players heroic and 25 players heroic the only options there is Also I have done the attuned quest. What am I doing wrong here? I can't get into Molten Core! Comment by kabookiejoe u mean, u didn't hit charge in bearform Comment by Mojox I am a lvl 85 Human Prot pally. I soloed it. My problem is I went to the magma looking dog. And the core hounds b4 him wouldn't die. I couldn't get them to leave me alone I was able to kill the dog and hold the core hounds off until I beat him.
I spent the next 20 min just killing them trying to figure out how to get them to stay dead. Help anyone? It should be doable by any 85 mage in reasonable gear. The basic strategy for each fight is to blow all of your cooldowns and kill the bosses before they kill your mirror images while keeping up ice barrier, frost armor and mage ward to absorb damage. Some notes for each encounter: Lucifron - Nuke. The mind control will always be resisted.
Remove his curse during or after the fight depending on your gear. Core Hound packs - Aggro and blizzard down.
Since there's an AoE damage cap, I would not recommend that you pull all of them at once as they very nearly killed me before I killed them. Magmadar - Nuke. Trinketing or ice blocking the fear s could shave a few seconds off the kill. Gehennas - Nuke. Garr - Use your pet's freeze and let it tank the adds while you nuke boss. Invis when boss is dead to save some time killing adds. Geddon - Kite back to the doorway you entered from to eliminate most of the fall damage and increase the time you can dps before your images expire.
Ice block after the fight to remove the debuff. Shazzrah - Nuke. Spellsteal his buff if you want; decurse yourself after the fight. Golemagg - Send your pet in first and use freeze when they clump together to let him tank the adds while you pop images and kill the boss.
He does a surprising amount of damage to you if you tank all 3 mobs and they burn through your images. Sulfuron - Kill adds one by one. You can't interrupt all their heals, but they die in a few FoF ice lance crits or a good deep freeze crit.
Executus - This fight has the most potential to kill you; you should save time warp for this one. The adds can't be burned down with deep freeze, though they can be stunned with it. Let your pet tank as many of them as possible and burn them one by one. Don't kill yourself with spell reflect. You can start the fight by sheeping one of the healers if you wanted to.
Ragnaros - Stand back and nuke him. Use slowfall or blink if you get knocked in the air. If you kill him fast enough he won't submerge, saving you some time. Comment by yom ahhh molten core Comment by remotettl so after 4. Comment by As of Patch 4. The Core Hounds are also larger than normal as of right now. Comment by there is one thing i dont get: how do i get in there in the first place? Second question: do i really have to walk blimp to gromgol and then flying mount to MC every time i want to do it?
Ty in advance. Comment by Soloed easierly as a Destruction Lock. Most of my gear was Heroics. Equipped Darkmoon Card: Twisting Nether Keep Recuperate up as much as you can. Lucifron : Nothing difficult, try not to aggro a corehound pack like I did. Magmadar : Nuke the crap out of him. Melt his face. If you managed to kill the corehound packs, he's cake.
Gehennas : Didn't notice he was a boss until he was dead. I cloak'd out of the debuff. Garr : Nuke him, use Blade Flurry to kill his adds. Geddon : I just killed him in the big flat area near Shazzrah.
