Cygwin where is startx
From here on, you can open X apps by running them from that XTerm. You can try by running xeyes inside that XTerm. Once you kill this X window, your X server is closed. You can now open another Cygwin window and can invoke individual X apps there and they will be displayed in individual windows. You can try by running xeyes from the Cygwin shell. I think I am missing something obvious. Colucix, I reviewed the link you provided and I did the exact steps upto step However, for step 15, when I clicked view after selecting X11 category, I do not see many of the packages listed in the link such as xorg-server, xinit, etc. I do see a lot of other packages and a screen similar to the one in the link. But no packages related to "x Not sure what I am missing.
It should be the last entry in the list of available packages and it's named X Expand it and you will see a long list of packages. Do you see X11 at the bottom of the list? Thanks Pan64 and colucix. I uninstalled cygwin completely and then re-installed it. I was then able to view and install the X11 package explicitly. Apparently, during the first run, thee default option for X11 was "do not install".
