Can you use vst with reason 6

You can play multiple instruments together in one instance of the Rack by simply dragging them in. We ran through the rest of the Reason 11 updates last month, but essentially there are new effects and lots of tweaks to the workflow features such as audio editing.

Here we have Kong and Europa instruments routed through a Line Mixer all sitting in a Combinator in one channel of Live. You can assign the Combinator rotaries to control different parameters on the instruments within it, so here Rotary One is changing the tone on a drum pad and 2 is controlling the filter on Europa, all in Live! Open them up as normal, then add other effects by dragging in or control-clicking.

You can actually add instruments too! Chain effects together as one massive effects rack. Again, all of these effects will apply to the Main Outputs of your DAW, but you have some routing flexibility too which can be increased using a Combinator again.

Whatever your DAW. We've, of course, improved Reason as a DAW too, adding some of the most requested workflow features like improved sequencing and editing. It's a bold move from the company formerly known as Propellerhead — they've changed their name to Reason Studios — whose instrument and effects have always been critically acclaimed, but have been locked inside the skeuomorphic software, without using the often clunky ReWire protocol.

We expect more plugins from the newly-christened Reason Studios in the coming months. Copyright Thrust Publishing Ltd. Each VST plug-in that you add to your project is hosted in its own rack container device see screen 1 above , which is a bit like the Combinator device in that it maps audio and control connections between the Rack and the instrument or effect inside.

This is then used in the Browser and VST rack device whenever you use that plug-in, as in the screenshots here. Leave everything unchecked if you wish to keep Reason running as before. This may be confusing as the plug-in itself will usually have its own presets, which are not accessible here. Instead, if the plug-in uses the standard VST bank and preset format for storing patches, you can click on the patch name display to the right and get a pop-up list of patches. Small up and down arrows will also appear in the name area allowing you to step through presets.

Many plug-ins now use their own internal preset manager interface. Further connections are reached by unfolding the CV Programmer at the bottom of the device, providing up to a total of eight inputs and 16 outputs screen 3.

Audio ports that are actually available in the plug-in light up green. Screen 3: Reason supports VSTs with multiple audio connections via the extended rear panel. The extra CV connections allow you to control and modulate plug-in parameters from other Rack devices. These can be assigned via a drop-down menu, or by activating the Learn function and clicking on a parameter directly.
