Why lay tile diagonally

I agree with a brick pattern BUT with such a large format tile it may produce lippage issues unless it is a natural stone. Before doing a brick pattern in large format, talk specifically with the tile company and the tile setter about it.
Most companies are now warning about it and it can affect your warranty. No as this is the decision I need to make this am. Shower wall tiles and floor match, brownish and blue, the rest of the floor is wood looking tile in blue and brown. Shower floor tile much smaller of course then wall.
All I see is all these squares and rectangles when the tile is put down to show me Depends, can you share some photos of what your kitchen currently looks like? Keep the flooring parallel or perpendicular with the walls. Like 4 Save. I also vote for diagonal for the way it opens up the space.
I find it looks less busy Sam. The success of this layout depends on the initial set up, and it results in more cuts to tiles applied along the edges of the room. However, the effect creates visual interest for many applications. Begin tile jobs in the center of a room, and work out toward the walls. This technique lines up the seams -- or grout lines -- between tiles more symmetrically. Find the very center of the room by measuring the length and width, then dividing each measurement by two.
Measure from adjacent walls to those calculated measurements and the exact center of the room is the point where the lines intersect. Accentuate the widthwise and lengthwise lines by snapping them with a chalk line. The chalk lines cut the room into four rectangles. A dry fit allows you to try out both designs -- diagonal and straight -- so you can better determine which one looks best in the room.
You also have the option of moving the tiles a few inches on either side of the center lines and layout lines. These adjustments may be necessary so that you do not end up with whole tiles adjacent to one wall, and narrowly cut tiles along the opposite wall. Unless the room is perfectly proportional to the tile measurements, you will need to cut tiles that butt up against walls or slide under door frames when using a straight layout. Diagonal layouts always require some cutting since tiles are at an angle to the walls.
With a straight tile layout, the cuts are almost always perpendicular to the tile edges. On diagonal tile layouts, the cuts are nearly always at an angle -- typically a degree angle -- to the tile edges.
These angled, or mitered, cuts are a little more difficult to make since you must slide the tiles at an angle through the saw blade. Robert Korpella has been writing professionally since If you want to get the original pattern, then in this case it is advisable to use a rectangular or polygonal material.
In relation to the walls, the tiles are mounted at an angle of 45 degrees, which allows to achieve maximum proportionality and aesthetics of the coating.
Through the use of rectangular tiles, you can effectively model the space inside any room. It is enough, for example, to arrange this material with the long side to the narrow sides and this will give an opportunity to increase the visual space of the room. If you take the direction to a natural light source, then in this case the illumination of the room will improve. With this manner of laying tiles need to be taken into account, the proportions will seem somewhat elongated. If you change the angle at the markup with respect to the walls, this will contribute to a drastic change in the layout.
There will be an opportunity to hide the defects and even minor unevennesses of the floor zone without much effort. The installation of the tile diagonally can differ from the traditional one in that it is executed in a runaway or seam in the seam.
Professionals agree that it is necessary to do this only for those who have a lot of experience in tile work. In addition to installing whole tiles, you will need to pay special attention to pruning and fitting parts, which will be many. As for the technology of flooring, it is almost the same. It will be necessary to pre-align and thoroughly prepare the base before installation. The floor should not contain traces of old finishing materials, which will interfere with the quality of the work.
If the surface is absorbent or weak, then it should be primed first, in order to achieve maximum adhesion. Waterproofing must be carried out if the work is planned to be carried out in rooms with high humidity. It is noteworthy that the installation of tiles on the floor in a diagonal direction to the walls can be made in different ways. The most common of them is when from the middle of the room the whole slabs of finishing material are mounted strictly on the marking, and then work begins with the scraps that will be placed all around the perimeter of the room.
As a rule, this method eliminates the floor zone within small rooms, when precisely because of the small area it is possible to achieve high accuracy. If it is necessary to mount a tile in a large room using a diagonal technology, then in this case everything will be much more complicated. The first thing to do is to put the first row, and only after that the cut out triangles will create the second row, with each part to be mounted by the hypotenuse down relative to the walls of the room.
